Hidden Danger Blog Tour with Celebrate Lit (Interview with Gail Pallotta)

About the Book

Book: Hidden Danger (Discipleship Series Book 1)

Author: Gail Pallotta

Genre: Christian Romantic Suspense

Release date: August 21, 2024

After Emily Hanover’s left standing at the altar in Blue Mountain, North Carolina, she goes to Sky High Campground to put her life back together. Because it’s February and few people come here this time of year, she’s alone on the premises. When noises in the middle of the night frighten her, she gathers her courage and peeks outside. A man carrying a body over his shoulder emerges from the dark shadows onto her front yard. Horrified, she collapses onto the floor.

The next morning, she visits ex-military officer turned security guard, Nick Lancaster. He listens intently to Emily, but dismisses her claim of foul play as a hunter carrying a deer. Finally, after he sees a freshly dug hole in Emily’s yard and finds two more in the woods, he agrees—there’s suspicious activity. Then he and Emily embark on a mission exposing murder and a far-reaching sinister plot, neither suspecting danger can bring romance.

More from Gail

The story behind Hidden Danger started with my love of mysteries and suspense, which began many years ago when I discovered Nancy Drew. Then I wanted to become a detective. That didn’t happen, but I turned my heroine, Emily Hanover, and the hero, Nick Lancaster, into amateur sleuths.

The granddaughter of a minister who planted churches in the far reaches of the Western North Carolina Mountains, I grew up at the foothills of them. As I pondered the setting for a good mystery, the area with lots of underbrush and caves offered opportunities for suspenseful scenes.

Emily works as a newspaper reporter, a job similar to one I had in a public relations department under a retired Associated Press guy. My husband was in the military. After all these years of marriage, I’m familiar with that type of personality, so Nick is an ex-military guy turned security guard.

Emily goes to the campground to find peace and comfort after she was left standing at the altar  on her wedding day. To say she has a chip on her shoulder over men is an understatement. The only true love Nick ever had died while he was overseas. Guilt because he couldn’t be by her side plagues him. He believes he’ll never love another.

Emily meets Nick because her first night at the campground, she sees a man carrying a dead body. Or, does she? Thus, a mystery in the Western North Carolina Mountains begins.

Interview with Gail

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I started weaving tales as a youngster. I didn’t think of writing seriously until I took professional writing in college. Then I realized I could make a living as an editor or copywriter. Even though I wanted to write books all along, I worked in public relations composing press releases and articles. After I married, I helped my husband with his business and published freelance articles. When he semi-retired, I started writing books.

What are your favorite books to read?

I enjoy reading most genres. If I had to choose a favorite, I’d select mysteries with suspense. I enjoy writing them too.

How do you create your main characters?

I start by detailing my characters’ physical descriptions. From there I give them a profession, hobby or interest as well as things they like and don’t like. Then I have them write about the theme I’ve chosen for my book, sort of like journaling. Afterward I put them in the setting with the other characters and add to their personalities as they interact with the plot, other people, animals, etc.

Where can readers find out more about you and your books?

I enjoy connecting with readers! I’m on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/AuthorsandMore; My Website at www.gailpallotta.com. ; BookBub at https://www.bookbub.com/profile/gail-pallotta;  and Pinterest at https://www.pinterest.com/Gwrt781/_saved/ . My blog is www.gailpallotta.blogspot.com

Any current or upcoming projects you’d like to tell us about?

Yes, I’m working on Dangerous Detour, Book 2 in the Discipleship Series. It features Moose and Ruthie. They will meet up with Nick and Emily of Hidden Danger in Book 3.

In Dangerous Detour four people are in the wilderness in a winter storm. Two have lost their way. One has lost his purpose and one has lost his soul.

Two strangers, Moose, a football coach, and Ruthie, a quiet college professor, headed home for Christmas are stranded in an ice storm on a blocked road with no cell phone service. When they take shelter in an old cabin, they unknowingly enter a killer’s hideout. Escaping under fire, they flee into a frozen forest where all of the trees, the earth and mountains look alike covered in snow. Trying to find their way out of the forest and shake the murderer, each day they dodge bullets until the temperature drops and the world turns quiet. As Moose and Ruthie set up camps in the wilderness, they ignore the chemistry between them—until each of them suffers a frightening injury. After Ruthie finally sees a house in the distance, they pin their hopes of survival on finding a new friend, or is he another foe?

I especially enjoyed reading about how the author creates her main characters. Her newest book sounds even more exciting than Hidden Danger.
