About the Book

Title: 70 North
Series: Alaskan Cyber Hunters #3
Author: Kimberley Woodhouse
Publisher: Kregel Publications
Release Date: October 15, 2024
Genre: Christian Mystery & Suspense

The Cyber Solutions team has managed to stay one step ahead of the madman who has killed so many. From the original 26 Below cyberattack in Fairbanks to the 8 DOWN serial murders in Anchorage and beyond, they matched wits with the killer and stopped him from reaching his ultimate goals.

But final judgment is coming. And this time, there may be no defeating him.

David “Mac” McPherson has a personal stake in making sure this predator stays down for good. His family died in the cyberattack. Mac knows that God says “vengeance is mine”—but surely an exception can be made.

Surgeon Tracie Hunter is determined to stay sober and keep saving lives in Fairbanks, Alaska—even if it means being a little obsessive. After all, that same kind of determination is how she kept Mac alive after the murderer targeted him. And she won’t let Mac run himself into the grave looking for payback; he’s come to mean too much to her.

Then someone hacks into the system at Tracie’s previous job as a medical examiner and frames her in a murder cover-up. There’s no one else skilled enough to create a digital trail this incriminating—the killer is back in action, exploiting cybersecurity weaknesses to destroy lives. Can Mac stay focused and stop the next attack when his own vulnerability is exposed? Or will his need to make someone pay for his pain allow the maniac to pull ahead and win at last?

My Thoughts

Powerful ending to an intense series!

What a rollercoaster ride! Mac and Tracie were put through the ringer with this one. It was the perfect wrap up for this series. It works as a stand alone, but I highly recommend reading the entire series in order for the full impact. Woodhouse inserts enough explanation of what happened before that you won’t feel lost if you only read this one, but to fully understand Mac’s journey, it’s best to start at the beginning. 70 North takes us deep into the heart of man, not only to the depths of man’s depravity (This series has a body count higher than most I’ve read), but also the depths of man’s pain and sorrow and how far man will go to find release from that pain. This series, and 70 North specifically, deals with substance abuse, not only in the lost but in the saved. It reminds us how easy it is to fall into sin, but also brings us back home to God’s grace. It reminds us that forgiveness is always available–how much we need God and good friends to help us through our trials–we can’t do this life alone. The ending was perfect for this book, and I recommend reading the author’s note afterward. Woodhouse does something a little different than expected.

I loved the beautiful moments intwined with the suspense and highspeed chase. The countdowns (and ups) at the header of each chapter added to the impact. It is chilling when you think of how easily someone could shut down our world through technology. It begs you to ask the question, is it worth it? The villain is one where you’re going to root for him to get his comeuppance, but there’s a point when you’ll wonder if he’s really going to get away with it all. He’s cunning, brilliant, and has every possibility covered. He just might be too much for the cyber hunters.

Excellent book, and a series I highly recommend to lovers of romantic suspense.

The reality of addiction in the lives of believers is something that doesn’t get addressed very often. I love that this author faces it.
