About the Author

Award-winning author and speaker Debbi Migit lives in central Illinois, surrounded by pumpkin patches and cornfields. Her first book, Child of Promise, is the true love story of a family formed through adoption. After ten years of infertility, Debbi and her husband Phil were just months from adopting when God said, “Not this way.” Child of Promise is the story of audacious faith resulting in multiple miracles. It encourages readers to remember their own promises and believe again.

Debbi has won multiple awards and contests, writing stories that are filled with faith and hope. She loves to share personal anecdotes about God’s faithfulness, infusing her talks with authenticity and humor. Debbi and Phil are the adoptive parents of Alex, Ethan, and Kate. The God-ordained spacing of their children offered the unique opportunity to parent a teen and two toddlers–at the same time. This is the season Debbi fondly calls the TNT years!

Debbi’s hobbies include reading, writing, and avoiding arithmetic. Her favorite color is turquoise, and she collects Trixie Belden books and typewriters. If playing Candy Crush was a paying gig, she would be rich.

Debbi’s Justice, Montana series begins with September Shadows, released in February, 2021. After the mysterious death of their parents, Jess Thomas and her sisters are determined to stay together and make a new life for themselves, which includes faith-testing danger, adventure, and romance.

October Outlaw was released in the fall of 2021, followed by November Knight in November 2023.

The series will conclude with December Dreams, and January Justice in 2025

Interview with Debbi

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I wanted to be a writer before I could even read! In first grade I told my mom a story about a mannequin that turned into a girl. Mom wrote it down for me and my teacher offered to let my classmates act out the story. In junior high, a mystery story I wrote was used by the teacher to show how to build suspense. In seventh grade I won a contest and earned my first paycheck for writing a short story. I never looked back.

What are your favorite books to read?

When I was a child, I was very sick and couldn’t participate in any activities for several months. Mom brought home stacks of books for me to read, so during that summer I went from a second grade to eighth grade reading level. My favorite series was Trixie Belden. I tried to read Nancy Drew, but I just couldn’t relate to her-she seemed too perfect.

After high school I began working in a bookstore (duh) LOL. I started reading romances, biographies and adventures. I liked anything about colonial times or pioneers traveling in covered wagons. I loved the idea of beginning a new life in a new land. One of my favorites was Mrs. Mike, a true story about a young woman who married a Canadian Mountie. It had all the elements: romance, adventure, starting a new life. I highly recommend it!.

These days I’ve added suspense and thrillers to my bookshelf. I love stories of everyday people caught up in extraordinary events.

What would you say is the most difficult part of writing a book?

Starting. There’s a saying, “Perfection is the enemy of good.” I still struggle with the feeling that everything needs to be perfect for me to write. My writing sweet spot is between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. I imagine that my office needs to be spotless (good luck with that) and I am guaranteed no interruptions (right). I have to overcome that image and begin, even in the middle of my imperfection.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

My life has been modified in the past few years. I love to travel, especially to writer’s conferences. But I am dealing with lymphedema now and for the moment, travel is not an option. Managing lymphedema is almost a full-time job, and every outing has to be planned for maximum safety using a rolling walker and a cane. Consequently, I only leave my home every six weeks or so.

We moved a few years ago and I redecorated my office using my collection of Northwoods décor. Since my series is set in Montana, I can pretend I’m in the mountains even in the middle of Illinois.

I ‘attend’ virtual writer’s conferences and really enjoy visiting with my writer friends. I discovered I have some talent in making books trailers. Who knew? I’m always looking for new ways to connect with my readers.

Of course I read- a lot! But I also like to listen to audio books while playing Candy Crush. I’ve convinced myself that this is beneficial since I’m using different aspects of my brain at the same time. I can’t verify this, but it sounds good 😊 If there was a way to monetize playing Candy Crush, I’d be rich.

Where can readers find out more about you and your books?

I actually designed my website using an online tutorial and I’m pretty excited about it! I know nothing about web design, but I love to learn new skills. You can find out more about me, my family, and of course my books, at Debbimigit.com. Right now, I’m writing December Dreams, the fourth book in the Justice, Montana series, so check in to see updates and excerpts.
