My Thoughts

If you’re a fan of Anne of Green Gables or of Pepper Basham’s Mistletoe Countess, you’re going to love Stephenia H. McGee’s Anola Flynn! Full of quirky characters and baffling adventures, I loved this romantic mystery on the mighty Mississippi. Anola’s eccentric family turns out to be just what Emmett needs, even though he doesn’t know it yet! This book will take you on a wild ride with river pirates, strange occurrences, hard decisions, betrayal, and falling in love—not just the characters, because you are going to fall in love with the Flynn family. Their faith in God and love for each other carry them through the toughest of storms. I loved this book and I highly recommend it. The River Queen is acceptable for all readers through teen to adult. There are mentions of alcohol consumption, pubs, illegal drugs, drug consumption, and gambling, but it is never glorified or explored in detail. Anola is innocent about romance and the ways of the wicked, which makes her even more endearing along with her spunky personality and trust in people to do the right thing.
