What was your favorite book when you were a kid? Did it play any part in your writing style today?

Any Nancy Drew book! Yes, it shaped both my love of writing and mystery/suspense!

Is writing your full-time career? Or would you like it to be?

Yes, I retired from my job at an insurance company in 2020 to write full time and I’m loving it. God is good!

What has been your favorite part of the publishing journey?

Meeting so many amazing readers, writers, agents, and editors. I’ve learned so much from all of them!

What books or authors have most influenced your own writing?

That’s a long list! My mentor is DiAnn Mills. She’s been a huge influence along my writing journey. I love her books, Lynette Eason, Lynn Blackburn, Jaime Jo Wright, and many more!

What comes first for you — the plot or the characters — and why?

The main storyline and then the characters. The characters help shape the story for me.

Can you share with us something about the book that isn’t in the blurb?

There’s a hair-rising scene along strong rapids at the beginning of the book that may have readers holding their breath! Haha 😊

What were the key challenges you faced when writing this book?

The mother/son relationship. Not being a mother, I had to tap into being an aunt and use those feelings. Especially in the scene where the dog is digging in an area where her son’s bandana… Well, let’s just keep that a secret.

What is the key theme and/or message in the book?

That God’s mercies are new every day and we need to trust that He knows best for our journey. Also that we need to forgive those who we feel have wronged us.
