Adventuresome

What book is currently on your bedside table?

Elysium Tide by James R. Hannibal

Is writing your full-time career? Or would you like it to be?

Yes, I write full-time and my career. I also mentor writers, edit, speak, and teach writing around the country. I love my writing life!

Have you always wanted to be a writer?

Yes. From the time I could hold a pencil, I’ve been writing. Story is life, like breathing.

What has been your favorite part of the publishing journey?

Taking what I’ve learned about the craft, branding, social media, marketing, and promotion and helping other writers be successful.

What books or authors have most influenced your own writing?

Jerry Jenkins: teaching and masterful writing.

Donald Maass: teaching and insights into fiction.

Steven James: Story Trumps Structure

David Baldacci: his many novels have shown me the power of story

What comes first for you — the plot or the characters — and why?

The plot then the character. The character must have the most to lose and the most to gain if he/she is unsuccessful. All characterization: personality type, life experiences, and backstory contribute to those two criteria.

What is the key theme and/or message in the book?

Truth is often hidden in greed, pride, and motivation.

Where can readers find out more about you and your books?

Any current or upcoming projects you’d like to tell us about?

A new romantic suspense in September 2023.
