Be Still Saturday-Isaiah 40:28-31-Wings As Eagles

Welcome to “Be Still Saturday!” Sit down with a cup of coffee, or tea, or hot chocolate, or even soda, doesn’t matter, and spend a few minutes letting God speak to you through his word. Each week, I will share a single verse or passage that blessed my heart as I read through the Bible this year.

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Isaiah 40:28-31 KJV

Are you weary, Christian friend? I know I am. I needed this verse this week. It’s comforting to have this assurance during these trying times that our God never gets weary. And because of that, He gives power to the faint, and increases strength to the weak. He has an unlimited supply that He is more than willing to share.

I’ve been thinking about that phrase “mount up with wings as eagles,” and one thought really stuck out to me. We talk about how eagles soar above storms (Did you know the eagle is the only bird to do this?), but what I wanted to point out is that eagles can’t soar in a calm sky. It’s the ever-moving wind currents and thermal updrafts that give them the push they need to reach those incredible heights. Without the change and upward pressure from below, the eagle would flap its wings, growing weary and tired, and eventually fall to the ground in exhaustion.

It’s easy to want the pressures of this life to go away. We want peace, calm, and stillness. But my dear friend, eagles can’t soar in the calm. Would you rather sit on the sidelines and watch? Or would you rather use the pressures and ever-changing wind of this world to see life from God’s point of view? The eagle finds peace using those thermal updrafts as a source of their strength. The greater the updraft, the closer to God they fly.

So, how about you, dear Christian, are you ready to soar? Will you allow this life draw you closer to God?
