Welcome to “Be Still Saturday!” Sit down with a cup of coffee, or tea, or hot chocolate, or even soda, doesn’t matter, and spend a few minutes letting God speak to you through his word. Each week, I will share a single verse or passage that blessed my heart as I read through the Bible this year.
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
how unsearchable [are] his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
Romans 11: 33-36
Today is my husband’s birthday. This morning, first thing, the toilet overflows. Great way to start the day, I know. And as I’m mopping up the mess, I realized that even on his birthday, my husband would have jumped in and cleaned that up, if he’d been home. But he was out, doing his best to be supportive of a ministry of our church, instead of sleeping in on his birthday.
And that’s when the tears rolled. My husband is a servant, and all too often, I criticise his efforts, or pile expectations and requests on him without giving thought to his needs. (I know, confession time.) And every single day, he does his utmost to meet my needs and to make me happy. (Ladies, I found one of the good ones.)
After this time of conviction and introspection, I began to think about how we deal with God. Every day, he gives and gives and gives. The very fact that you woke up this morning is a gift. It’s so important to God that we are “happy,” that He was willing to die so that we might have unimaginable good things and life with Him in paradise forever.
And how do we thank Him? We complain. We criticise. We question His decisions. We tell Him He doesn’t care about us. We mope when He doesn’t answer our prayers when and how we want. Our prayers are full of selfish requests—what we want Him to do for us.
Huh?
Convicted yet?
When do we take the time to thank Him? Oh, not for what he does, but for who He is? Can we just be grateful for all he’s already given us instead of asking for more? Would we bathe in His love without questioning His character? Would we praise Him for the little things that we take for granted? Would we count our blessings instead of dwelling on our complaints?
1 John 4:19 says, “We love him, because he first loved us.” (KJV) I bolded that word, him, because most Bible versions leave it out. We love HIM, because he first loved us. I was going to comment on it, but I honestly think that verse says everything I could say.
So, my admonition for today, is to take time to love God. To praise Him. To thank Him. To worship. Don’t take his blessings for granted. Don’t forget everything He does day in and day out for you.

Oh my word, this post is exactly what I needed. Thank you for this. And, happy birthday to your hubby. I hope you all have a fun day today. 😀
