If it ain’t broke, why’s she so intent on fixing it?
Tessa Booker hates romance.
For 25 years, Tessa Booker has insisted that romance is something Hollywood cooked up to sell books and movies. Yes, she knows the word existed before movies. She doesn’t care. That’s her story, and she’s sticking to it.
So, when Ross gets a gentle nudge from Mallory Barrows to look into what Tessa’s doing every day while he’s at work, he discovers a romance in the works – one that sounds a little too “ripped from the pages of his life”!
Who is this woman, and what has she done with his wife?
Armed with advice from 101 Ways to Romance Your Wife and a copy of the manuscript he printed while she was napping, he’s determined to figure out what’s up with his wife…and if maybe a little romance wouldn’t be a good thing, after all.
In a twist of the “on the rocks trope”, this book introduces the next island in the Independence Islands series featuring five islands, six authors, and a boatload of happily ever afters.

My Review
Here lies Tessa Booker. Death by Sticky Notes.
Bookers on the Rocks is a fun, heart-warming addition to the Independence Islands series and I love that the publisher has made them into audio books. Christa DelSorbo does an excellent job with the narration, though I did laugh when I heard her “male” voice for the husband. It’s funny when women try to sound like men and vice versa. (shrug)
Bookers on the Rocks follows the love story between married couple, Tessa and Ross Booker, who after twenty years of marriage has grown into comfort and familiarity. But Tessa finds herself irritated with Ross’ idiosyncrasies that never used to bother her before. Maybe it has something to do with that romance that she swears isn’t important to her. When Mallory of the Book Barrow encourages Tessa to write a romance novel from her perspective, Tessa, though reluctantly at first, jumps two-feet into proving that romance is a thing of Hollywood and Hallmark.
The book includes romance (gasp), danger, charity, laughter, and a heart to heart faith message, the kind I’ve grown to love about Chautona Havig’s books. One thing I appreciate is the tactful way she addresses physical intimacy between the married characters. It was well-handled, but still mentioned as it’s a part of any good marriage.
Communication between any two people is difficult, and it’s no different for married couples. It’s probably more difficult, because you can’t just get away from the other person when you are having trouble communicating. Men and Women are not the same and they express their needs differently. It takes love, understanding, and a lot of forgiveness to make a marriage work.
For those who want a clean romance with married characters, I highly recommend Bookers on the Rocks.

Thanks for listening and reviewing. Your comment about Ross’s voice made me giggle. It is always odd for me to speak in a “man’s voice” as a woman. I try to think of it more as differentiating the characters for the listener. I appreciate your time and the kind review. Blessings!
