His Encouragement #3- A Lighted Path

I’ve joined my blogging friends for a new facet of my blog, called His Encouragement, inspiring scriptures shared each Thursday. My hope and my prayer is that these scriptures each week will bless your heart and encourage your soul.

I’m very excited to share my personal verse for 2021 and begin a new journey together through the Word of God.

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

Psalm 16:11 KJV

This leads into a theme for this year’s His Encouragement posts. Each week, I will look at another “path” found in the Bible. We will also look at verses with the word “lead.” I hope that as we journey together through these verses that we all will learn a little more about God and the paths he has for us to take in our lives.

Today’s verse is Psalm 119:105- “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Have you ever been walking in the dark with only a flashlight or lantern to light your way? Maybe you were out camping? Or maybe you were retracing your steps because you dropped something? I mean, who hasn’t done that!

The funny thing about these kinds of lights is that unlike the sun, spotlights, or even overhead ultraviolet lights, they only light up the space right in front of our feet. The rest of our surroundings remain dark, but we can see our next step. Our next step in clear and safe.

God’s Word is like a candle or a lamp. It illuminates our next step in life, and only the next step. God has never promised to show us the future. He asks us to walk with him, one step at a time. After all, “the just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17) If we could see our whole path laid out in front of us, we wouldn’t need to live by faith.

Walking by faith is difficult. It’s hard not knowing what’s coming when we take that next step. It’s hard not being able to see our surroundings. It’s hard to feel the darkness pressing in around us and not know what’s out there.

We aren’t supposed to.

Just like in the story of Peter walking on the water. It was when he took his eyes off of Jesus (and the steps in front of him) and looked around at his surroundings, the darkness of the storm, that he began to sink.

Are you allowing God’s Word to light your path one step at a time? Are you trusitng Him to lead the way, even when you can’t see what’s up ahead?

What scripture is encouraging you today? Share it with us!
