About the Book

Book: Justified Means
Author: Chautona Havig
Genre: Christian Suspense
Release date: January 7, 2013
How could she not be terrified?
When Erika Polowski is abducted from her bed and held captive without explanation, she has one goal. Get away before they kill her.
Keith Auger’s job as an agent is to keep Erika safe—even if it means keeping her locked in an abandoned cabin in the middle of nowhere. At gunpoint.
What should be a routine “involuntary extraction” goes south when someone finds out where they’re hiding. Add to that a coworker with a chip on her shoulder and too many unexplained “accidents,” and it all adds up to one unlikely, terrifying explanation.
There’s a mole in The Agency.
He’s promised to protect her, but can Erika trust a man whose job it is to hold people against their wills? Does his deep faith make it any better or just a whole lot creepier.
And just who wants Erika dead anyway?
The Agency Files: They’ll do whatever it takes to keep their clients safe. Period.

About the Author

Chautona Havig lives in an oxymoron, escapes into imaginary worlds that look startlingly similar to ours and writes the stories that emerge. Isn’t That Idea a Bit Crazy and Farfetched?
Black ops teams. They’re the stuff of TV shows and movies. I have no doubt such things exist—military groups that have to exist and work outside the normal scheme of things to give those who answer to the public plausible deniability or some such thing.
Then one of those “what if?” questions hit me. They’re an occupational hazard, those “what if?” questions. They appear out of nowhere and start crazy thoughts in your head. Ones like, “What if a private company existed to do things that couldn’t be tied to the government in any way—no money exchanged?”
What if sometimes a protection company had to work outside the law in order to do the job they needed to do? What if that meant they might just have to abduct someone to save his or her life?
Those of course led to the granddaddy of all questions. What if that someone didn’t appreciate being saved?
The Agency was born and with it their motto: Whatever it takes.
That’s what they’ll do to keep their clients safe. Only the wealthy can afford their services. Some of the poorest of the poor receive them. But it always boils down to one primary goal. Protect their clients at all costs.
Even if the client doesn’t want protection.
Is the idea a bit crazy and far-fetched? Yeah… probably. But I wouldn’t be surprised to discover there are similar agencies out there, and if there are, I hope they save lives with the sort of compassion my guys have.
Interview with Chautona
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
When I was twelve, I read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and something Francie Nolan’s teacher said about writing the story about how you think things should have happened really resonated with me. That was a defining moment for me.
What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
I cannot start writing a book without a title. It’s the only form of writers’ block I’ve ever experienced.
Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
Information is tons of research which takes the form of books, interviews, and internet. Ideas usually come when people say something or do something that make me go, “Wait… what if…?” Other times, people say, “Did you know?” and it sparks an idea. My mother just gave me a great idea for a book that will ramp up the tension like CRAZY. So ex
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
I can’t remember those days… just kidding. I like reading, paper crafting, reading, hanging out with the family, reading, dreaming up new books, playing games and sometimes if there’s nothing else to do, I read.
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your book?
There are actually agencies who exist to do the kinds of protection that my Agency provides. They may not have the deep governmental connection and separation that mine does, but the results can be similar.
Do you have any suggestions to help someone become a better writer? If so, what are they?
Read a lot and write even more. Daily if possible. Seriously, the best way to become a good writer is to study craft, read good books, and do lots of writing. Listen to what your editor says your weak spots are and keep those in mind while you’re writing the next thing.
What’s your favorite part about being a writer? Research? First Draft? Editing?
Brainstorming new ideas and then starting with all those things swirling in my head. The only thing I DON’T like is the fifth, sixth, twenty-ninth round of edits. By that point, I usually hate the book, think it’s the worst thing ever written, and never want to see it again. A few months later, I’ll go in to find something in it and catch myself reading and think, “Wait… this isn’t so bad…”
What do you think makes a good story?
Engaging, flawed characters you cheer for and situations that make you think, “Hmm… what would the Lord want from me in this situation.”
As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
😊 I’m doing it.
What project are you working on now and how do we find your books?
Right now, I’m working on the third Independence Islands book, Flipping Hearts and my mail-order bride story in the Westward Hearts and Home series, Penelope’s Pursuit. The easiest place to find all my books, including those coming soon, is Chautona.com/books
