My Thoughts:
Beyond Second Chances tells the “rest of the story” after the death of her second husband in Second Chances. The book begins with her fiancé ending their engagement. Shirley tells how she wanted to get married so badly that she was willing to overlook others concerns and very nearly married a man who was all wrong for her. She had to learn to be content as a single woman before God brought a new man into her life. Shirley intertwines her background for the readers as she shares the stories with Jim while they are dating. I was confused at first and had a tough time following the first few chapters. It was like we were moving back in time instead of forwards and I wasn’t sure how the stories fit with the rest of the book.
However, Beyond Second Chances is a beautiful story of a woman who overcame unimaginable loss and tragedy, and the healing God brought and continues to bring to her heart and life. She shares what God was able to do through her testimony, including family members won to Christ. She shares the lessons she learned through her marriages both through regret and counsel. The tales of hiking Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens fascinated me. The story is filled with both joys and heartaches, funny moments and times of terrible pain.
I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys memoirs and Christians personal testimonies of God’s work in their lives.

More from Shirley:
Can you find love again on a couples matching site? Yes. And no. In my first book, Second Chances, I share how I found love and married second time on a matching site. Seventeen months after our marriage, my husband died. I didn’t think I’d ever love again, but after time, explored the same website only to be crushed with disappointment. My dreams were destroyed. As a result, I learned to fully surrender to God and be contented in whatever state I was in—married or single. This book continues my story and ends in joy! Find out what happens in this second book. God blesses us Beyond Second Chances. Read my story and be encouraged.
