I’ve joined my blogging friends for a new facet of my blog, called His Encouragement, inspiring scriptures shared each Thursday. My hope and my prayer is that these scriptures each week will bless your heart and encourage your soul.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV
This past week, I came across a graphic that said, “Actually, he will give you more than you can handle. That’s the point.” And I thought, how true! It reminded me of this verse from 2 Corinthians.
The apostle Paul was wearying of an a trying circumstance in his life. There’s debate on what that actually is. Some say it’s a person, others say that it was a problem with his eye sight. Whatever it was doesn’t matter, the point is that he asked God three times to remove it from his life and God wouldn’t. Instead, his answer was “MY grace is sufficient for THEE: for MY strength is made perfect (complete) in YOUR weakness.” (emphasis added)
His strength is best seen in our times of weakness. His grace is sufficient to give us the strength to endure what ever difficult or trying circumstance that has come into our life.
For the past couple of years, I’ve been having trouble with my eyes. When I do any up close work such as reading, looking at my cellphone, writing on a notepad, or even grading and planning my daughters schooling, my vision becomes doubled. It took a while for me to even figure that much out, at first I thought is was just blurry, but I am getting double images. Not side by side images. Vertical double images. In both eyes. At the same time. The more I read, the worse it gets. If I don’t read or look at my phone, it doesn’t happen. And it’s happening within a short period of time, it’s not like I have to read for hours to make it happen. The only things I have found that “fix” it is watching TV, looking outside the car while I’m riding, and going to sleep.
My optometrist has tried everything he can think of to help. He gave me bifocals which do help things up close to be clearer, but it is still happening. And for someone who reads everyday, this is quite the frustrating problem. I’m living much of my days in a blurry state.
Please pray for me. There’s some avenues we can pursue to find out what might be going on, but I can’t help being afraid. My first thought of course is, “what if they tell me I can’t read anymore?”! Only a bookworm like me would think about that first! We need wisdom to know whom to visit and what tests should be done. I need strength to deal with whatever comes my way. Even if it’s just therapy, I need strength to actually do whatever exercises I’m given.
The last part of the next verse says, “for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
When I am at my weakest, that’s when his strength is the strongest!
So remember these words today.
“He will give you more than you can handle. That’s the point!”
