Raina Bretton is a rag woman in London’s east end when a handsome stranger appears in a dank alley and offers her a glittering smile and a chance for adventure. Rothburne Abbey has a unique position for her, one that will take her away from her hardscrabble life and give her a chance to be a lady. Things she could only dream of might be coming true. But some dreams turn out to be nightmares.
Though Raina has traded squalor for silk and satin, something about the abbey is deeply unsettling. As she wrestles with her true identity, the ruin, decay, and secrets she finds at the heart of the old mansion tear at her confidence and threaten to reveal her for who she really is. Only one man stands between her and the danger that lurks within–and only if he decides to keep her biggest secret hidden.

My Thoughts:
Finding Lady Enderly was a masterfully written romance with mysteries and intriguing subplots around ever proverbial corner! It didn’t like this one as much as Joanna’s last book, but I still loved it! Joanna has such a poetic way with words and the stories she can spin are wonderful. I loved this Cinderella-type story about a girl who trades squalor for riches, but quickly learns that everything is not what it seems. Where is Lady Enderly? Why is she is hiding and why won’t anyone let her talk to her?
I enjoyed the unexpected twists this book takes, several that I never saw coming. The ending was a completely surprise and I loved how everything came together in the end. I always expect a happy ending, but there were definite moments in this book that made me question if that was going to happen for these characters.
As with everyone of Joanna’s books, my favorite part is the spiritual message for the soul of the reader. At first, it seemed overly-hidden, but it developed more as the story progressed and you learn the scriptural principle along with Raina. That is, that your identity is found in Christ alone, not in your social status or the clothes you wear. No one else can tell or gets to tell you who you are.
I recommend this book for those who love historical romances, especially those in the regency era. Also for those who love a little suspense with their romance and a whole lot of God’s love.
