I’ve joined my blogging friends for a new facet of my blog, called His Encouragement, inspiring scriptures shared each Thursday. My hope and my prayer is that these scriptures each week will bless your heart and encourage your soul.
Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Hebrews 6:17-20 KJV
The book of Hebrews is one of my favorite books in the Bible and this passage is one of my favorites in this book.
The word ANCHOR is only used once in scripture. I love the mental picture these verses create. I can imagine a boat anchored in a cove sheltered from the storm that has descended upon the body of water that it traversed. While the storm roars about this little bark, its anchor keeps it firmly in place.
Isn’t it a pleasant and comforting thought to think of Jesus as our ANCHOR both sure and steadfast keeping us anchored in our faith while the storms of life beat upon us. I have fled for refuge in the shelter of the HOPE we have within us: the hope that Jesus is the sacrifice for our sins and that our redemption is found in his death and resurrection. That veil was torn in two when he died and he is our high priest forever more. We can go directly to him with our worries, troubles, trials, tribulations, and temptations. HIs open ear is always there to hear our prayers. This hope holds our soul like an anchor does for a ship.
Thank God for the anchor of the soul!
