Thank you for joining me for another Top Ten Tuesday with The Artsy Reader.

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is the ten reasons I pick a particular book to read.
How do you choose your books? Tell us about it in the comments.
#1: Authors
The number one reason I choose a certain book, is simply who wrote it. There are certain authors that I don’t hesitate to grab their books, whether those be new or older releases. I know what to expect from their work and I’ve loved each one.
#2: Publisher
Yes, I choose my books based on who published the book. There are certain publishers that I have come to trust. I know that they only release good quality stories and I can trust their output.
#3: People on the covers
I love people on the covers of books. I love that first introduction to the characters. If their are people on the cover, I’m more likely to chose a particular book over another.
#4: Romantic plots
I love romance! I have enjoyed book without a romance, but it will need to have a strong emotional storyline otherwise.
#5: Bright Colors
I love covers with bright colors. The more colorful the picture, the more I’m drawn to the book. I don’t choose books with muted colors.
#6: Well Recommended
If everyone is talking about a particular book, I am more likely to pick it up. I like to know what others think about a book. There are even certain reviewers that I ready their reviews before I read that book.
#7: Humor
I love clean comedy! If the story sounds funny, I’m more likely to read it!
#8: Spritual Message
The deeper, stronger, and more present the spritualt message, the more likely I am to read the book. I have never found a book “too preachy”.
#9: Clean Content
I don’t read books with cuss words or sexual scenes. I like my books to be as clean and as innocent as possible and still be classfied as a book for adults. I’ve given lower ratings for books for including popular euphemisms or “minced oath” words, or even words like “hot” and “sexy.” Which is why I probably prefer books set in historical times verses modern. I don’t like it if the characers focus too much on the physical body of another person.
#10: Genre or Time Period
I mostly read historical romance and romantic suspense. I will read some myseries and historicals. I don’t read thrillers, fantasy, or sci fi. I rarely read books set in Medeviel times. I am more likely to chose a book set in the past than in the present. Though, I am learning to enjoy more contemporary books.

I have a list of publishers I really like, too. Good answer.

I don’t know about #3. I like people on the covers, but I usually like them best when their faces are obscured so it doesn’t distract me from imagining the characters for myself.
Happy TTT!
