I’ve joined my blogging friends for a new facet of my blog, called His Encouragement, inspiring scriptures shared each Thursday. My hope and my prayer is that these scriptures each week will bless your heart and encourage your soul. Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?
John 6:9 KJV
Yesterday, I was watching a video interview of Joanna Weaver, the author of “Having a Mary’s Heart in a Martha World” I can’t remember her exact words, but it was something along the lines of, “our job is to pack our little lunch and allow him to use it. Or not to use it.”
I scribbled down a note for myself, then I sat in stunned silence. My heart was moved by this simple thought.
Our job is just to pack our little lunch and allow him to use it. Our lunch is small. We may not have much to offer Him, but we can give Him what we have. You know, that little boy did not pack his lunch that morning planning to feed 5,000+ people. He didn’t set out expecting a miracle. He packed his lunch so he would have something to eat while he went to see Jesus. But Jesus already knew. It says in that same passage, “that he himself knew what he would do.”
So, what’s in your lunch? Do you only have “five loaves and two small fish” to offer to Jesus? That’s all that He requires. Pack the lunch that you were given and let the Lord use it how He wills. It may be that He has something bigger in mind than you could ever imagine.

I love this! This is such a great thought! “our job is to pack our little lunch and allow him to use it. Or not to use it.” Now that has given me something to chew on!

I really like this post. It is extremely encouraging to me today. My husband and I were just talking this morning about how people like to put God in a neat, little box. I hate that, This post goes along those lines. Just because I don’t have a lot to offer, doesn’t mean God can’t use me. God can do anything!

This account of the boy with the loaves and fish was one of my mom’s favorite. Very powerful message in a very simple act. Thank you for sharing!

I read Having Mary’s Heart in a Martha World with a group of ladies from church several years ago. Definitely a memorable one! Thanks for sharing this!
