Book: Securing Charity
Author: Julia David
Genre: Inspirational Historical Romance
Release date: October 17, 2022
Has God and all that is good truly abandoned her?
After a fearless Swedish man intervenes to save her from a brutal attack, Charity Baldzo, a Roma beauty with a hidden disability and a lineage shrouded in mystery, escapes to her mother’s farm. But as she grapples with her past and the scars it left, will she ever find the safety she desperately seeks?
Ari Johansson’s world spirals into chaos after his act of bravery turns to tragedy. The vengeful hand of the man who assaulted Charity strikes back, slaughtering his sheep as retribution. Now, Ari’s brother languishes in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, and flames devour his home and barn, leaving him with nothing but a future of despair. The only glimmer of hope is Charity, who now cares for his young nephew, Soren.
As desperation mounts, Ari is reluctant to lean on the fierce Roma women. But when Charity’s mother proposes an unexpected deal—one he should refuse—he’s faced with an impossible choice. Could marrying the beautiful Charity and securing the neighboring land be the key to ensuring Soren’s safety and freeing his brother?
Attraction sparks between them, but can their disparate worlds coexist? Can they navigate their differences and build a future together?
PG- A clean and swoon-worthy historical romance with deep veins of grace, courage, and heart-hugging acceptance. Curl up and escape to a happy ending.

More from Julia
Fun fact: My daughter’s dear friend is a talented photographer who was born missing half of her left arm. Her agility and confidence are truly inspiring, and she served as a major inspiration for our heroine, Charity.”
My favorite part of being an indie author is witnessing how God provides the perfect cover models just when I need them. Each of my books features amazing ladies (and gentlemen) from my Northern California area, and I absolutely love creating the costumes myself.
Below are photos of our heroine, Charity, showcasing costumes that are largely sourced from Goodwill. I truly enjoy the creative process!
Interview with Julia
What are your favorite books to read?
My favorite books to read are (no surprise) Christian Historical Romance. They say writers should write what they love. I love the 19th century American spirit that crosses from one coast to another to reach something better for themselves or their families. These books blend adventure, faith, and romance in a way that not only entertains but also inspires, and I think that’s what I’m always looking for when I dive into a new story.
How do you create your main characters?
Before I start writing, I dive deep into my characters—often creating 2-5 pages of background. I explore their childhood, losses, trauma, gifts, and desires. Physical traits like eye color or quirks are purposeful, but what really matters is their faith. Do they believe God is for them? Do they feel worthy? What have they overcome, and how is that shaping their adult lives? Charity, for example, is shaped by her past and her beliefs, and those elements play a key role in how she navigates her story. By the time I begin writing, I know my characters inside and out.
Do you base your characters on real people?
Yes, many of my characters are inspired by real people and actual events. For example, in Love Protects, the heroine’s childhood incident with talcum powder is based on a real story from a friend’s life. He accidentally caused harm to his baby brother, but it wasn’t an accident in his eyes—thankfully, his brother survived. Charity’s character is inspired by a close friend of my daughter’s who has a hand and arm deformity. She’s a talented photographer and actually took the cover photos for Books 2 and 3. Real life adds authenticity to my stories and helps make my characters feel grounded and relatable.
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
One of the most surprising things I’ve learned in my writing journey is how much the Lord has inspired the plots and characters. I pray for His guidance and inspiration, and time and again, He’s been faithful to provide. It’s humbling to see how stories unfold—much like how Jesus used stories to teach and connect with others. I truly believe my creativity is a gift from Him, and He downloads ideas in the most unexpected ways.
Where can readers find out more about you and your books?
I’d rather be writing (or reading) but many more behind the story insights are found at my website: www.juliadwrites.com
