Thunderous applause extinguishes her dream and ignites her worst nightmare.

Clara Reinhold’s father publicly pledges her hand to Georg Wolff. His character and arrogance match the stench of his odious cigars, but his lineage offers a suitable alliance for the station of a baron’s daughter.

A charades clue years earlier turned friendship into a promise of forbidden marriage between Clara and family carriage driver, Daniel Becker.

If she refuses Georg and follows her heart, her father disowns her and she loses everything—her loving family, dear friends, and the only home she’s known.

As a tangled web of scandal and deceit unwinds, hidden motives and illicit activities emerge among an unsuspecting ring of players changing everything but nobility’s rules.

How will justice be served?

How will Clara and Daniel overcome obstacles to claim a future beyond that of a charade?

More from Lynn

My daughter gifted me a tee shirt for Christmas with an image of a typewriter and the slogan: I make things up. That’s a novelist job! 🙂

Where we and our family came from and how we arrived where we are today, there’s a story in each of us. I find myself often pondering people’s back stories. I regret knowing only the tiniest bits of my own family’s backstory. When I had the opportunity to ask the questions, I was too naive to know what to ask. Decades later I made it up. Tangled Promises was born.

A recurring theme as I wrote Tangled Promises focuses on this verse: The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all. ~Proverbs 22:2

Clara and Daniel lived in the same world. She the daughter of the Baron and he the family’s humble carriage driver. Very much in love with one another, but their social status dictated rules created to forbid their union.

In a world so shattered by differences, God calls us to see we’re all the same in His eyes. From the unborn baby to kings in the land, we’re all cherished by Him. He calls us to forgiveness and love.

While I’ve published a few devotional books, Tangled Promises is my debut novel and the first book in the Promised Destiny series. Thank you for reading. I pray you love it and are blessed.

Interview with Lynn

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve always enjoyed writing. Stories I wrote as a child vanished with the many, many moves my family made. One little one remains (see next question). Over the years I’ve written Bible studies for church groups I led. None of those were ever published. At the age of 65, I took the bold step to self-publish my first (of 3) devotional books – The Essence of Courage: Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit in Solomon’s Locked Garden and in Your Heart. Two more followed in the series. Tangled Promises is my debut novel, and I’m definitely older than 65 now.

When did you write your first book and how old were you?

It wasn’t nearly a whole book, just a paragraph. But it was my first published piece when I was 7 years old. A tiny article for a local small-town paper about my Brownie Troop. I still have the little clipping from the newspaper.

How do you create your main characters?

Clara Reinhold and Daniel Becker, the main characters in Tangled Promises were imagined from a tiny snippet of my family’s story. My great-grandmother was a baron’s daughter in Germany. She was in love with the carriage driver, but their union was forbidden by nobility’s rules. Her father chose a man for her who she very much disliked. I don’t know much more than that about them, but I had a great time imagining what their lives might have looked like. Clara and Daniel brought along an eclectic cast of characters as they told me their story—or at least the one they wanted shared.

What is your real-life work schedule like when writing?

I’m up at 5:45 when writing or not writing. The first hour and a half of my day is my quiet time. Spending time with God, and finding focus for my day ahead. My husband is mostly retired, and likes having my attention. After a leisurely breakfast with him, I spend time keeping up with social media and a myriad of life tasks that need to be done. After lunch my bottom is in the chair for the next few hours. I aim for 1500-2000 words per day on writing days. By 4:30 in the afternoon, I don’t have many words left in me, but my brain is still kicked in listening for my characters’ conversations and scribbling them down. If I don’t make note of them at the moment, they’ll run away.

In my non-writing world, I’m a reflexologist. If you’re not sure what that is, think way better than a great foot rub. I limit my client schedule substantially during busy writing times.

I enjoyed the author interview, especially how she based her debut novel on a piece of her family history and how she imagined it as story.
