Secrets Come in Every Shade
After the introduction of Yellow magic in a society accustomed to only Red and Blue magic, the world inside the barrier has become more complicated than anyone imagined. Ava, Elm, and the former students of Prism navigate life in hiding. They face discord, secrets, betrayal, and danger that looms ever closer as the Benefactors narrow in on their hideaway.
Ava is determined to keep everyone protected, even at the cost of her own safety. She explores dangerous aspects of her new Mentalist abilities—against Elm’s dire warnings.
Tensions escalate when a new visitor arrives claiming to know a way out of the barrier. While this may be the only way to escape the Benefactors, what awaits them on the outside? Will they gain allies or make an entirely new set of enemies?

About the Author

Ashley Bustamante has created stories from the moment she could scribble and staple sheets of paper together. She simply cannot recall a time when writing was not a force in her life. When not running through lines of dialogue in her mind, she enjoys taking photographs and spending time with her husband, three children, and any furry, feathered, or scaly creature she can find.
More from Ashley
When I originally wrote Vivid, book one in The Color Theory series, I wasn’t sure if the story would continue. But it had to, didn’t it? Without spoiling anything, Vivid ends in a place where things are really just beginning, and that’s where Radiant takes the stage. What does coming together really look like? What does it take for a group of diverse people to unite? Radiant explores the strength that grows from working together and overcoming differences. It doesn’t come naturally to everyone, and our characters have a lot to learn. I hope you’ll enjoy Radiant!
Interview with Ashley
Share something your readers wouldn’t know about you.
I think many readers don’t know I’m a huge geek. I love anime and manga and superheroes and all that fun stuff. Though perhaps that’s not unusual for speculative authors!
What has been your favorite part of the publishing journey?
It’s been wonderful being in a position where I can now start to give back some of what was given to me. I received advice and mentoring from so many authors on my journey to publication and I try my hardest to do the same for others. I understand how it feels to be stuck in the query trenches or to feel like you’ll never be good enough. I’m glad that I’m able to use my experience to encourage others who are going through the same.
Can you share with us something about the book that isn’t in the blurb?
There are more swoony Ava and Elm moments in Radiant. The blurb doesn’t always focus on that sweet romance aspect, but I know readers are looking for it, so rest assured that it’s there!
Does one of the main characters hold a special place in your heart? If so, why?
Well, who wouldn’t love Elm? He’s such a fun, quirky character but has a heart of gold. I knew readers would fall in love with him and they certainly did! But I feel close to Ava too because I relate to her in many ways.
What were the highlight or key challenges you faced when writing this book?
I definitely felt a lot of that “second book syndrome,” where you’re faced with the challenge of connecting the beginning and the end of a trilogy. I felt a lot of pressure because the first book was so well-received. I wanted to make sure readers would enjoy the follow up just as much if not more than the first. Early reviews have been positive, so I’m very happy about that!
