About the Book

Book: The Inn on Hanging Hill
Author: Christy Barritt
Genre: Romantic Mystery
Release date: October, 2021
Each house has a history. Each person has a secret. Each turn of events leads to danger.
Lindsey Waters never wanted to return to the seaside inn where she grew up. Too many traumatic memories haunt the place, both from her childhood and from days gone by. But with guilt relentlessly chasing her after a tragic choice, she’s desperate for a fresh start.
Mysterious incidents begin plaguing the inn—dangerous incidents—that make it clear someone wants to scare Lindsey away. But why? Does it have anything to do with the two weeks missing from her memory when she was abducted at age twelve?
Childhood friend Benjamin Newsom seems like an answer to prayer when he shows up to work as a handyman. But something is different about him, something Lindsey can’t put her finger on. She’s certain Benjamin harbors secrets.
As peril continues to close in, Lindsey must decide if she wants to face her past or run. She doesn’t know whom she can trust, and whatever choices she makes will determine if she lives or if she becomes part of the inn’s tragic legacy.

More from Christy
I’ve always loved old houses—ones you can look at and see that they were once full of life and love. But, through the years something happened, and these places now stand in neglect. Based off that idea, I developed the Beach House Mystery Series. Each book is a standalone—the series is connected only by theme—and features a different beach house on a different beach.
The Inn on Hanging Hill was inspired by my time on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. The area was once thriving and one of the wealthiest in the country. But the railroad changed, and that left the area isolated and without enough work to support the population. It also left it with tons of history—and stories that go along with that history.
I hope you enjoy Lindsey’s story!
Interview with Christy
Welcome Christy! I’m so happy to have you on the blog today. To start us off, I’d love for you to share something your readers wouldn’t know about you.
I have a soft spot for dogs—that’s how I somehow ended up with four of them!
Aww! That’s great! Besides being a dog lover, if you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Creative, loyal, and curious.
I’ve noticed those traits are common among authors, especially creativity and curiosity, must have something to do with the trade. 🙂 Speaking of authors, what book is currently on your bedside table?
Aftermath by Terri Blackstock (it’s actually on my phone via Audible because I mostly listen to books).
Terri Blackstock is an outstanding writer. That’s very cool that you mostly do audio books, I’m still getting into it. What has been your favorite part of the publishing journey?
I’ve loved almost everything about it. I love creating the stories God has put on my heart, I love connecting with readers and hearing their reactions to my books, and I love being able to do this job (a lifelong dream) fulltime.
I love that. Especially about writing the stories God puts on your heart. What an honor to serve him in this way. Can you share with us something about the book that isn’t in the blurb?
This book takes places on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, which has a very interesting history. It’s a beautiful area on the Chesapeake Bay. At one time, the communities there were thriving and wealthy. But over the past several decades, much of it has become abandoned. The Inn on Hanging Hill takes place in an abandoned old inn—and I just love abandoned buildings. I like to imagine what life might have been like there at one time. The inn in this book has a creepy history that makes it even more interesting to me.
Does one of the main characters hold a special place in your heart?
From the start, Lindsey Waters grabbed my attention, mostly because of her tragic past. She was abducted as a child, but she has no memories of what happened to her during the two weeks she was missing. She’s tried to move on, but it’s been difficult.
Wow, I can’t even imagine going through that. Her experience will add a lot to the story, but what about you? What were the highlight or key challenges you faced when writing this book?
This book brings in a large cast of suspects as they try to solve an old crime while figuring out who’s causing trouble at the inn now.
I love multiple suspects! Sounds exciting! What is the key theme and/or message in the book?
The key theme in this book is facing your past or running from it. Do we move on and try to forget? Or do we tackle what’s happened to us head on, no matter how painful? This seems to be true for the inn and for the characters residing there.
What a great theme! Where can readers find out more about you and your books?
My website is a great place! www.christybarritt.com
Any current or upcoming projects you’d like to tell us about?
I’m currently working on Fog Lake: The Colsons, a suspense series about three siblings whose father is a serial killer. I’ve really enjoyed delving into the family dynamics of these three as they try to come to terms with what their father may have done. The first book is Legacy of Lies.
