Interview with Kristina
I’m so happy to have you here on my blog, Kristina. I’ve been spotlighting your books for a while, so I thought it was time our readers got to know you a little better. Welcome!
My first question is one that readers always love to hear from authors. What book is currently on your bedside table?
My Bibles. I’m not in the habit of keeping my novels on the bedside table for some reason. They’re normally under the bed or on the armrest of the couch. Then there’s the to-be-read stack beside my dresser… 🙂
It’s funny how we have different habits for different books. But God’s Word is the most important book we can ever read, so I’m glad you keep it close to where you start and end the day. Tell us, have you always wanted to be a writer?
I don’t know that I’ve always wanted to be a writer, but I’ve loved reading for a long time. That ended up growing into a love of writing.
I’ve heard it said that you should write the book you want to read, and great readers make great authors. What has been your favorite part of your publishing journey?
I love writing the first draft. Finding out where the story is going to go is always an adventure. I’ve also found I really enjoy designing my covers. I’m not usually an artistic person, so this is a little strange to me. And I’ve also been thankful to meet lots of like-minded authors and readers over the course of my publishing journey.
For me, the first draft is always the hardest. And I didn’t know you designed your own covers. That’s so cool! If you could travel anywhere or any when for research, where/when would you go?
Somewhere warm! I know that’s a vague answer, but I’m done with the cold right now 🙂
Somewhere warm sounds delightful! When you’re writing, what comes first for you — the plot or the characters — and why?
For me, it depends on the story. Sometimes, the plot is the driving factor, but other times, I develop the plot so I can write about the characters.
That’s very interesting! And speaking of characters, does one of the main characters hold a special place in your heart? If so, why?
I’m quite fond of both of the main characters in Fled for Refuge. Tony—because he’s just a normal guy. He’s not the dashing hero so often found in fiction. He makes wrong decisions, but he wants to do right. Merri—because she has a more introverted personality. She struggles to talk to people she doesn’t know well. And I also enjoyed writing her character arc.
I’m sure the readers are going to love these characters, so, for you, what was the highlight of writing this book?
I had a lot of fun writing the first draft of Fled for Refuge, and I’ve really enjoyed seeing readers’ reactions to the finished version now that I’ve released it. I’m also looking forward to holding the print copy when it comes in the mail!
There’s nothing better than bringing your book baby into this world. Where can readers find out more about you and your books?
My website: https://kristinahallauthor.wordpress.com/ or my newsletter: https://kristinahallauthor.ck.page/ are both good places where readers can find out about me and my books.
Any current or upcoming projects you’d like to tell us about?
I’m currently first drafting Midnight Will Come, the first book in a dystopian/suspense series that doesn’t have a series title yet. I’m also about to start editing Refuge from the Storm, the second book in the Refuge series and the sequel to Fled for Refuge. I don’t have a synopsis for it yet, but I’ll be posting it on the book’s Goodreads page soon.

Title: Fled for Refuge
Series: Refuge, #1
Author: Kristina Hall
Genre: Christian dystopian/suspense
Publication date: 1/24/2022
Back Cover Blurb:
Tyranny. Betrayal. Risk.
Tony Dorence works security for a little country church mostly untouched by America’s downward spiral. Untouched, that is, until a car smashes through First Baptist’s front doors and the driver threatens the congregation. Though Tony thwarts the driver’s intentions, this seemingly random event sets off a chain reaction that endangers his sister, Merri, and everyone involved with First Baptist.
Merri Dorence, though not a believer, supports much of what First Baptist stands for. As Tony’s world is shaken, she too is dragged into the turmoil.
As everything falls apart around them, will Tony and Merri crumble beneath the pressure or flee to the only One Who can provide them refuge?
