In anticipation of this amazing collection releasing on October 12th, I thought it would be fun to introduce you to each of the authors and give you, the readers, a glimpse into each of their lives and writing process. Today, we have Cynthia Hickey, author of The Tail Waggin’ Mystery series, and Suspicious Minds, released July 2nd, 2021.

Multi-published and Amazon and ECPA Best-Selling author Cynthia Hickey has sold close to a million copies of her works since 2013. She has taught a Continuing Education class at the 2015 American Christian Fiction Writers conference, several small ACFW chapters and RWA chapters, and small writer retreats. She and her husband run the small press, Winged Publications, which includes some of the CBA’s best well-known authors. She lives in Arizona and Arkansas, becoming a snowbird, with her husband and one dog. She has ten grandchildren who keep her busy and tell everyone they know that “Nana is a writer”.

Let’s get to our interview, shall we?

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

Ever since I learned to read at the age of four, I’d been making up stories, but it wasn’t until Junior High School that I started writing them down. I’ve always wanted to be a writer. 

What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

I can only write in the mornings. Seriously. If I have to wait until later in the day, absolutely nothing comes to me. 

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

Everywhere! A conversation, a blip on TV, something I read…the possibilities are endless. But, I’d better write it down or I forget. 

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

Crochet, paint, woodburn, resin, diamond dot…most crafts. 

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

That people actually enjoy reading them. 

What’s your favorite part about being a writer? Research? First Draft? Editing?

None of the above. LOL. I like writing. That’s it. 

What do you think makes a good story?

Likeable characters, a plot line that keeps the reader engaged, an edge of suspense whether it be will they end up together or will they defeat the bad guy. 

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

I wanted to be a teacher. I was, too, just not in the way I thought. I’ve taught Sunday School, Women’s Bible Study, girl scouts, a guest at schools, and at writing conferences.

Tell us about your novella for the Dangerous Pursuits Collection.

An author finds himself thrust into the plot of one of his novels and must team up with the woman who broke his heart in order to save his sister.

Duncan feels guilty being drawn to the beautiful detective when his sister’s life is in danger. Revisiting feelings for Duncan is unprofessional in Kennedy’s book. Especially under the circumstances.  

Then the stakes rise as Duncan’s friends are murdered one-by-one and Kennedy abducted.
