For 2020, I have chosen Isiah 41:10 as my personal verse. This lead into a theme for this year’s “His Encouragement” posts. Each week, I will look at another “fear not” Scripture of the Bible. I hope that as we journey together through these verses that we all will learn a little more about trusting God and rooting out the fear in our lives.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:10-11
Happy New Year’s Eve!
I had planned to share this verse last Thursday, but then I got distracted with Christmas plans and totally forgot about it until sometime Saturday. That’s ok, because lately it seems I forget anything I don’t write down. Ah, I guess that’s the joys of getting older, even though I’m not even forty yet!
Anyway, today is our last post on the “Fear Nots” of Scripture. We’ve done 44, although there are many more found in the Word of God. I hope you will continue to trust God and not fear the coming year or the circumstances life may bring with covid, the election… and everything else life throws at us along the way even when we’re not facing world-shaking pandemics!
In today’s Scripture passage, the angels appear to the shepherds on a hillside with some amazing news. And they begin with the words, Fear not. Now, I’m pretty sure that’s because they were beholding a wondrous sight and thought they were dead men. They must’ve been shaking in their sandals, I know I would have been! But the angel said that he was bringing good tidings of great joy for all people, and that his message of Joy was that the Messiah—the Savior of the world had come!
I think that is the best message I can leave you with as we end 2020 and begin a new year.
Because Jesus!
I know this year has been tough for so many people. And no matter what specifically you’ve faced—there have been heavy burdens to bear. However, because Jesus has come, we’ve been able to carry on through this year because of the strength and courage that knowing Him has brought into our lives.
Thank you, Lord Jesus for walking by our sides through 2020 and thank you that we can lean on you as much in 2021 as we did this past year. Thank you, that we have no reason to fear because You came to earth to save us and to bring us eternal life. Thank you for the lessons you taught us this year through the trials we faced as families and as a nation. May your guiding hand walk with us every step of the way as we enter the new year.
Amen and Amen.

The verse I always seem to come back to is Jeremiah 29:11. My life has been wound up into having to stay home for all but appointments, surgeries and shopping I can’t find someone to do for me for the last 6 years. Being a person who always took care of other people in my position, as a profession to caring for my grandparents, this has been a very difficult adjustment. But I have been blessed to see so many ways God has taken things that have happened to do some beautiful things from them! I have made friends that He has used to carry me through and show me His work. I am so grateful I have Someone so much better than myself in control of my life!
