For 2020, I have chosen Isiah 41:10 as my personal verse. This lead into a theme for this year’s “His Encouragement” posts. Each week, I will look at another “fear not” Scripture of the Bible. I hope that as we journey together through these verses that we all will learn a little more about trusting God and rooting out the fear in our lives.
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Joshua 1:9 KJV
Today’s passage is familiar. One that I would even dare to say is the life verse of many Christians. It probably also one of the most common passages to write into graduation cards. We love the comfort and exhortation that God is with us where ever we go in life.
However, have you ever considered exactly where Joshua was headed when God encouraged him with these words?
Into battle!
Into battle with a people much greater and more powerful than he and the Israelites could imagine. Their mighty armies and impenetrable walls made conquest nearly impossible by man’s standards.
I know many Christians feel like they’re in a battle right now. A battle for their country. A battle for their faith. A battle for their families. (Maybe battles with their families)
But God said these words as he prepared Joshua to face this great challenge.
The Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
This applies to you too, Christian friend, no matter what battles you are facing in your life. God commands you to be strong and to have courage and not to be afraid or dismayed. And Not because you are something. But because He is Someone!
What scripture is encouraging you today? Share it with us!
