Secrets at Cedar Cabin- a Book Review

About the Book:

From USA TODAY bestselling author Colleen Coble comes the third book in her beloved Lavender Tides series.

Her mother lied about her identity and her husband wasn’t who she thought he was—can Bailey even trust herself anymore?

Running for her life in the wake of her mother’s murder, Bailey Fleming escapes to the only place she can think of—a remote, dilapidated cabin in Lavender Tides. Intending to finally get to the truth behind the lies of her past, Bailey only finds more questions when bodies are discovered near her cabin hideout along with traces of a dangerous human trafficking ring. In an unlikely partnership with FBI agent Lance Phoenix, Bailey races to understand the mystery surrounding her life and circumstances before the murderer tracks her down.

Meanwhile, Lance is determined to rescue his sister, Ava, who was abducted after running away from home as a teenager. An unexpected lead brings him to the remote cabin, and he wonders if Bailey—with her suspicious past and strange connections to his sister’s case—is really who she claims to be and if she can somehow lead him to Ava.

Filled with Colleen Coble’s custom blend of suspense and romance, Secrets at Cedar Cabin takes us back to the evocative landscape of Washington’s coast where nothing is quite as it seems.

My Thoughts:

I am a Colleen Coble fan. I have loved every one of her books that I’ve read, and Secrets at Cedar Cabin was no different. This was the perfect wrap-up for the Lavender Tides series. My favorite part of a Colleen Coble book is that I can never guess or even be suspect of the bad guy. I never know who it is, where as in most suspense, I’ve picked him out before I’ve read half the book. I also love that her books are just the perfect blend of romance and suspense, and for me they’re not too scary or too intense. And they’re so clean and well-written.

Secrets at Cedar Cabin does deal with a difficult subject- human trafficking. It was difficult to read about, realizing what a reality this is in our modern times. It’s not something we usually like to think about. Because, this book deals with such a sensitive topic, some discretion is advised for reader maturity, but at the same time, (because it’s clean and tactfully written) I think this would be a helpful book to use as a springboard to discuss this topic with teen daughters and the very real danger of sex trafficking.

I love how Mrs. Coble always includes an element of forgiveness in her books. In this case, Bailey finds out that everything about her life is a lie. Worse than a lie, really. She’s been raised by a kidnapper (like Rapunzel in Disney’s Tangled). If you’ve not read books 1 and 2 of the Lavender Tides series, you need to, to become fully involved with these characters. Secrets at Cedar Cabin could be read as a stand-alone, but I don’t recommend it. Without the rest of the series, it would lessen the emotional impact of this book. All the characters and their stories are continuations from the first books and each of their stories tie up at the end of Secret at Cedar Cabin.
